DeSoto Schools Reopening Plan

Dear DeSoto County School District Community,

In collaboration with multiple community partners and volunteers over the past two weeks, our district and school teams have been working around the clock to address the impacts of Hurricane Ian. Our mission is to safely welcome students and staff back into our schools and facilities as soon as possible. To ensure the safety of all, an industrial hygienist is testing and clearing all facilities in the district. We are reopening schools in two phases.

Phase 1

Schools reopening Monday, October 17 and operating on a normal bell schedule.

  • Memorial Elementary School
  • West Elementary School
  • DeSoto Virtual Academy
  • DeSoto Middle School
  • DeSoto Secondary School

Phase 2

DeSoto County High School and Nocatee Elementary School had significant damage to areas within their buildings which will require more time to restore. Both buildings are projected to reopen between October 24 - November 7, 2022. Next week, we will have a better idea if the reopening date is closer to Monday, Oct.24 or if it is later. Either way, we will share this information as soon as possible. We appreciate your ongoing support and understanding during this challenging time.
